About

I’m Chris Mytton, a software developer living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

This is my personal website. I’ve been writing here since 2010, about whatever I’m curious about at the time.

What I’ve written about

Most of the older articles are about programming: Ruby, web scraping, the command line and small tools. Alongside those are shorter pieces about life and creativity, running, books, food, gardening and the changing seasons.

What I’m into now

Lately I’ve been spending more time on maps, especially Ordnance Survey maps, and on the landscape they describe. I walk a lot, mostly in the Cotswolds, and I’d rather understand a place than just walk through it.

That has led me to the traces people have left on the land: hillforts, burial mounds, Roman roads, ancient trackways and old industrial sites. I find them using old maps, archaeological records and LiDAR, then go and see them on foot.

I make understated walking videos on YouTube. You can follow new articles with the feed.
